Dementia Carers’ Experience Videos
The Dementia Carers’ Experience video was jointly produced by the ACI’s Patient Experience and Consumer Engagement (PEACE) team and the Aged Health Network. It explores the experience of dementia from the perspective of carers.
Patients and their carers and families can feel frightened, judged, confused and not confident that staff in healthcare facilities understand their particular circumstances. This short film shares the experience of three carers and their interaction with the health system, in particular acute health care facilities. The carers were carefully chosen to represent the following groups:
- Rural community
- Cultural and linguistically diverse community
- Younger carer
This resource complements other resources which have been developed under the banner of Care of Hospitalised Confused Older Person (CHOPs). It can be used for training and orientation of healthcare workers and other staff involved in the care of patients with dementia and their families and carers.
The video is 10.30 minutes long and is complemented by an excerpted sequence which explores some positive strategies used to improve the patient and carer experience of dementia.
The ACI is grateful to the carers and staff who generously gave their time to share their experiences in this video.
