New Model of Care for osteoporotic re-fracture prevention

New Model of Care for osteoporotic re-fracture prevention

The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Musculoskeletal Network has released a new Model of Care for osteoporotic re-fracture prevention.

The Musculoskeletal Network: Osteoporotic Re-Fracture Prevention Model of Care was designed in consultation with a working group, comprised of rheumatologists, endocrinologists, general practitioners, rehabilitation and pain management physicians, geriatricians, orthopaedic surgeons, nurses, physiotherapists and consumers, to support the spread of successful models of care for people with, or at high risk of, osteoporosis in NSW.

Recommendations included the establishment of Fracture Liaison Coordinators in each local health district, who will provide individuals with disease management education, support for self-management and initiate specific treatment to reduce the risk of further fractures.
