Measuring Outcomes that Matter Most to Patients

Measuring Outcomes that Matter Most to Patients

The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) has announced a new strategic partnership with the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), bolstering its efforts to promote better healthcare and better outcomes for patients across NSW.

To mark the start of its partnership, the ACI and ICHOM hosted a workshop in Sydney bringing together health system leaders, clinicians and consumers to consider the enablers for identifying and measuring outcomes that patients want.

Dr Nigel Lyons, ACI Chief Executive explained that ICHOM’s mission is to unlock the potential of value-based health care by defining global standard sets of outcome measures, and driving adoption and reporting of these measures worldwide.

ICHOM defines outcomes from the patient’s point of view, and have made good progress internationally in engaging clinicians, consumers and managers to identify outcome measures that matter to patients,” said Dr Lyons.

“There is a great deal of enthusiasm for this direction in NSW, and our new partnership will allow ACI networks and local partners to access and contribute to ICHOM’s defined global standard sets of outcome measures,” Dr Lyons said.

“Our goal is to transform innovation in healthcare delivery by promoting outcome measurement in NSW – so that we can clearly demonstrate to patients, healthcare providers and clinicians the actual results of care provided and how care can be improved,” said Dr Lyons.

“Our partnership with ICHOM marks an exciting new phase for ACI and an important step towards achieving our vision of better healthcare and outcomes for patients across NSW,” Dr Lyons said.

The ACI is a NSW government agency that works with clinicians, consumers and managers to design and promote better healthcare for NSW:

ICHOM was founded in 2012 by Professor Michael Porter of Harvard Business School, the Boston Consulting Group, and the Karolinska Institute:
