When you've got chronic pain young people do make progress with these strategies we've been talking about.
And as you're making progress and doing a bit better, sometimes it is a journey.
With all journeys there are ups and downs.
It's like a road trip.
Um… there's no such thing as a smooth track or a smooth road.
Um… inevitably there'll be things that make you feel worse and sometimes make your pain feel worse again.
Colds, injuries, whatever.
Um… and it's really important to recognise that you're not back at the beginning.
It's a common thing when I'm talking to young people who are having their first or second episode of having bad pain again after doing really well.
They think they're back at the beginning and it feels miserable and terrible because they know they can be better.
But it's really vital that you recognise that you're not back at the beginning.
You've come so far and you've learned so many things along the way.
Right now might be a pothole or a flat tyre or something interrupting how well you were doing.
But these are things that you can go around or fix, things you can address and you're not back at the beginning you don't have to go back and relearn all this stuff.
You're actually along the way and you can see your goals, you can see the future and you know where you're headed.
So you're a lot better off than when you started.
And it's important to recognise that and to make some plans.
